The eight teams participating in this first event are Serbia’s KK Mega Basket, Spain’s Gran Canaria, Italy’s Umana Reyer, Greece’s Panathinaikos, Turkey’s Anadolu Efes, Bahçeşehir College, Fenerbahçe Beko, and the U18 Next Gen Istanbul team.

Vuk Danilovic

6’3 CG | KK Mega Basket | 2008

FIBA U16 Stats: 15.7 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.7 SPG, 36.7% FG, 37.5% 3P

Danilovic has long been a standout in the Serbian prospect scene, often playing above his age group in national and international tournaments, including a role on last year’s ANGT team. This year, Vuk returns as a key player for Mega Basket, following a standout performance at the FIBA U16 European Championship, where he played a pivotal role in securing a bronze medal for Serbia and ranked as the tournament's 11th leading scorer. A crafty ball handler with potential as a three-level scorer, Danilovic is expected to emerge as a leader for Mega Basket in this competition. He has also been having a strong season in the Serbian JLS, averaging 19 points per game in his first three games.

Ognjen Srzentic

6’8 SG | KK Mega Basket | 2007

FIBA U18 Stats: 6.3 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.0 APG, 71% FG, 73% 3P

A big guard who plays at his own pace, Srzentic was impressive in limited minutes, playing a year up in the FIBA U18 tournament. He was extremely efficient in FIBA play this summer, shooting very well and contributing all-around winning minutes for Serbia in his 15 minutes a game. He made 8 of his 11 3-point attempts and showed some intriguing passing flashes as a solid athlete and strong shooter. His main weakness is defense, as he’s often late on closeouts and tends to get lost in rotations. It will be interesting to see how he handles the physicality of some of the more athletic teams in this tournament.

Lun Jarc

6’8 F | KK Mega Basket | 2009

FIBA U16 Stats: 5.3 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 1.2 APG, 54% FG, 37% 3P

Jarc, a Slovenian forward, first made waves with Mega's U15 team, leading them to victory in the Serbian Minicup with a stellar performance of 35 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds in a big win over Red Star. Since then, he has continued to climb the ranks within Mega's system and now competes for their U19 squad at 15 years old. Jarc stands out as a versatile forward with exceptional court vision and playmaking ability for his age. His offensive awareness and effectiveness in transition highlight his potential as a point-forward for Mega. It will be interesting to see how much playtime he receives in this tournament as one of the youngest players at the event.

Nikola Karalic

6’8 F | KK Mega Basket | 2008

FIBA U16 Stats: 8.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.4 APG, 1.7 STK, 43% FG, 43% 3P

Karalic is an entertaining Serbian prospect, bringing an intriguing blend of scoring and athleticism to Mega’s U18 team. A big, switchable wing who uses his size and athleticism to create mismatches against smaller players, Karalic is a smooth scorer and great finisher with a lively handle. He helped Serbia secure 3rd place in the FIBA U16 tournament alongside Vuk Danilovic. With a long wingspan and some intriguing defensive upside, he has shown flashes as a shot blocker during the U16s and has been playing promising basketball in both the JLS and Serbian U19 league as a consistent shooter and efficient scorer.

Code Mbengue

6’11 F | Gran Canaria | 2008

FIBA U18 Stats: 9.3 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.7 BPG, 39% FG, 71% FT

Mbengue made a significant impact this summer with a standout performance at the FIBA U18 African Championship for Senegal, playing two years above his age group and emerging as one of the most dynamic athletes in the tournament. Possessing elite athleticism, a massive wingspan, and impressive coordination, he excelled as an above-the-rim finisher and showcased a developing jumper during AfroBasket. A highlight-reel player, Mbengue also demonstrated promising instincts as a passer and rim protector. He’s still relatively raw as a player, with his weaknesses notably being his assist-to-turnover ratio and high fouling numbers. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to his first contest against European competition, especially while sharing the frontcourt with two other highly regarded big-man prospects.

Mervedi Miteo

6’10 C | Gran Canaria | 2008

ANGT 23-24 Stats: 12.2 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 2.0 BPG, 53% FG, 88% FT

Miteo displayed some intriguing potential last year while representing Gran Canaria at the ANGT Paris, where he averaged a double-double at just 15 years old. An imposing presence in the post, he has a strong frame and impressive rebounding instincts for his age. He has shown some creative post moves and promising flashes of playmaking as a passer from the block. A traditional back-to-the-basket big man, Miteo does most of his scoring around the rim. While he doesn't get to the free-throw line as often as one might want, he was highly efficient from the stripe last tournament. Currently playing spot minutes in Spain’s third division for Gran Canaria 2, he will be one of the more experienced players in this tournament.

Omer Ege Ziyaettin

6’2 G | Fenerbahçe Beko | 2008

FIBA U16 Stats: 17.7 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 4.3 APG, 41% FG, 40% 3P

Ziyaettin made a strong impression at the FIBA U16s, emerging as one of the top guards in the tournament. He ranked fifth in scoring while shooting an impressive 40% from three on seven attempts per game. A talented scorer with deep range, he has shown a knack for creating separation and knocking down tough, off-balance shots. Despite his smaller frame, Ziyaettin excels at generating his own offense and has already gained valuable experience, becoming the youngest player ever to appear in the Basketball Champions League at just 15 years old while playing for Beko in the Turkish Super Cup. Currently competing in the Turkish U19 league, he’s averaging 15.5 points per game on efficient 50/61/100 shooting splits. While he needs to build strength to handle more athletic opponents, his scoring ability gives him the potential to be one of the standout players in this tournament.

Louka Letailleur

6’6 F | NGT Istanbul | 2008

FIBA U16 Stats: 10.0 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.3 APG, 54% FG, 40% 3P

Letailleur played a crucial role in France's gold-winning U16 squad, using his relentless motor and ability to make winning plays all over the court. He earned a spot on the All-Star 5 after a strong all-around tournament, standing out as one of France's most consistent and efficient performers during their championship run. While his stats may not leap off the page, his impact on the game was undeniable. He brings a physical presence, excels as a strong rebounder, and provides great energy with his hustle on both ends of the floor. However, he hasn't developed much as a passer or playmaker yet, both with Gravelines U21 and the French U16 team.

Jahel Trefle

6’10 C | NGT Istanbul | 2007

ANGT 23-24 Stats: 7.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 0.5 APG, 50% FG

Trefle has been a prominent name in French basketball for the past few years but truly broke out after a strong showing at the ANGT last year. A mobile, athletic big man with an expanding shooting range, he is currently signed with Strasbourg in the LNB Pro A league. He has a solid frame and brings a strong physical presence in the paint. His performances so far in the LNB, LNB U21, and FIBA U17 competitions have been underwhelming, as he hasn't made a significant impact in his limited minutes. This tournament presents a key opportunity for Trefle to prove himself as one of the top prospects born in 2007. The talent is clearly there, he just needs to show it on the court.

Djordje Djukanovic

6’5 G | NGT Istanbul | 2008

FIBA U16 Div. B Stats: 12.0 PPG, 14.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.9 SPG, 46% FG, 26% 3P

A dominant rebounder at the guard position from Montenegro, Djukanovic broke out at the FIBA U16s by leading the tournament in rebounds, including an incredible 26-rebound performance against the Netherlands. He recorded a double-double in every game he played and was named the tournament's best guard. Djukanovic combines a high motor with excellent positioning and anticipation around the basket. He also boasts a strong frame and is developing a reliable three-point shot, making him a well-rounded and impactful player for this NGT team.

Roman Avdejev

6’8 F | NGT Istanbul | 2008

FIBA U16 Div. B Stats: 12.7 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 1.3 APG, 2.1 BPG, 48% FG, 78% FT

Avdejev broke out this summer, winning tournament MVP in the FIBA U16 Division B tournament while leading his team to the gold medal and an eventual promotion to the A division. A crafty scorer around the basket with great technique, he’ll be a name to potentially put on breakout watch as he plays in his first ANGT tournament. He played in the European EYBL this summer and averaged 14-7-2 on 61% from the field. He has some intriguing playmaking flashes as well.

Moussa Coulibaly

6’8 C | Gran Canaria | 2009

U14 Stats: 53.5 PPG, 47.0 RPG

Coulibaly recently caught the attention of scouts at the Spanish Children’s Championship in Badajoz, where he posted remarkable numbers for Realajos, including a 55-point, 44-rebound, 4-block game (24-31 FG, 7-12 FT), as well as a 52-point, 50-rebound performance. One of the biggest mysteries of this tournament, the 15-year-old big man is set to make his ANGT debut for Gran Canaria, playing up three years in competition.

The game of basketball is becoming increasingly global each year. Last year, the top two picks in the NBA Draft hailed from France, and a record 4 out of 5 players on the All-NBA First Team were internationally born, signaling a massive shift in international scouting. Everyone is looking for the next big thing—the next Luka, the next Giannis, the next Wembanyama. But the question remains: who are the next ones?

My name is Alec Kichian (nbadraftpoint on X), and I’ve taken on the challenge of popularizing global scouting through a North American lens. After countless hours of research and scouting, I’ve grown familiar with many of the top youth clubs around the world, such as INSEP Pole France in France, Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain, KK Mega Basket in Serbia, and Olimpia Milano in Italy, among others. This series is my attempt to cover the best U18 squads worldwide as a precursor to the annual Adidas Next Generation Tournament, where these clubs compete to earn the title of the top youth basketball program in Europe.

Looking at the emerging talent across the next few generations, it’s hard not to get excited. We’re seeing young phenoms like Mohamed Dabone (born in 2011), who is dominating U16 and U18 tournaments in Europe, and the forward duo of Hugo Yimga and Nathan Soliman, who are lighting it up in France’s NM1 league at just 15 and 16 years old. We are entering a golden era of youth competition overseas, with many U18 teams boasting a new level of depth. As college becomes a viable option for these international prospects, it’s wise to familiarize yourself with these rising stars.

Part 1: INSEP Pole France

Over the past five years, fourteen French prospects have been selected in the NBA Draft. INSEP (Institut National du Sport, de l'Expertise et de la Performance) has established itself as the premier youth talent development program in France, grouping the top-ranked prospects and national team candidates to compete in NM1, France’s third-tier professional league. INSEP has been instrumental in developing talent, with most of its players being key members of France’s youth national teams, including 2025 draft prospects Nolan Traore and Noa Essengue.

This year, INSEP has assembled a solid squad of players from the 2007 and 2009 birth years, 12 of whom were members of France’s U17 and U16 teams this summer. Here’s the current roster breakdown:

INSEP’s squad competes in France’s NM1 league against adults, despite most of their players being between 15 and 17 years old. Their model is somewhat similar to the G-League Ignite program but with younger players and a lower level of competition. While they don’t win many games, the experience they gain against older opponents becomes evident when they compete in age-group tournaments, such as the Adidas Next Generation Tournament, where they finished as runners-up last year, and in FIBA competitions, where they won gold at the U16 level. Headlined by forwards Hugo Yimga and Nathan Soliman, and backed by experienced veterans like Jonas Boulefaa and Yannis Allard, here’s a quick look at each of the notable prospects.

The Top Prospects

Hugo Yimga Moukhouri (6’8 | Forward | 2008)

• FIBA U17 Stats: 15.4 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.7 STK, 51% FG The clear standout of this INSEP roster, Yimga is a 6’8 forward with an incredible motor who consistently dominates above his age group in FIBA and national competitions. He’s built like a prototypical NBA forward and has shown steady improvement at every level. Yimga was a standout in last year’s Adidas Next Generation Tournament and led France in nearly every category while playing up at the U17 level this year. A great athlete and versatile two-way player, his motor, frame, and athleticism set him apart, despite needing to refine his shooting. He’s already ranked 10th overall in the On3 2026 HS class rankings.

Nathan Soliman (6’6 | Wing | 2009)

• FIBA U17 Stats: 7.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.0 APG, 2.3 STK, 49% FG Soliman emerged during last year’s Adidas Next Generation Tournament as one of INSEP’s best players despite being the youngest in the entire competition. A 6’6 wing with advanced offensive skills, Soliman is an elite ball-handler and creator with the versatility to develop into a classic 3-and-D wing. His flashes of high-level shot creation are particularly impressive for a player his age.

Jonas Boulefaa (6’8 | Forward | 2007)

• ANGT Paris Stats: 14.5 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.0 APG, 48% 3P One of the team’s leaders, Boulefaa turned heads with his big performance in last year’s Adidas Next Generation Tournament finals, where he scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a clutch effort against Real Madrid. Boulefaa is a knockdown 3-point shooter with a strong frame and great motor, making him a reliable scorer who can also do the dirty work in the paint.

Matthys Mahop (6’5 | Guard | 2008)

• FIBA U16 Stats: 5.6 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.3 APG, 38.5% FG Mahop, one of the younger players on this team, has shown flashes of high upside as a 6’5 point guard with creative playmaking and ball-handling abilities. While he’s struggled early on, his shifty ball-handling and instincts make him an intriguing prospect.

Cameron Houindo (6’8 | Big | 2008)

• FIBA U16 Stats: 13.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 4.6 STK, 53% FG Houindo is a powerful forward/center who led France’s U16 team to an undefeated record and a gold medal, earning tournament MVP honors. He’s a versatile defender and strong rebounder with flashes of offensive skill that could make him a key piece moving forward.

The "Vets"

Yannis Allard (6’7 | Wing | 2007)

• FIBA U17 Stats: 8.7 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.6 SPG, 37% FG

A consistent presence and veteran leader for this INSEP squad, Allard is one of the few players consistently starting in the NM1. He’s a wiry, multi-level scorer on the wing and serves as a reliable offensive option and shooter. While streaky, he’s a confident shooter capable of catching fire from three. Allard is also a great cutter and fluid offensive threat who should thrive when playing against opponents his own age. Despite the lack of a true point guard on France’s U17 team limiting his output, Allard still projects as a promising complementary piece for the future.

Noa Kouakou-Heugue (6’8 | Forward | 2007)

• FIBA U17 Stats: 6.6 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 0.7 APG, 73% FG

One of the older players on the team, Kouakou-Heugue remains one of INSEP’s most underrated prospects. Standing at 6’8, he’s an explosive athlete with intriguing playmaking potential that often doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. He excels in transition and plays a physical style with two-way upside. A versatile player, Kouakou-Heugue has recently shown growth in his game and is a name to watch closely in the coming months.

Meissa Faye (6’5 | Wing | 2007)

• FIBA U17 Stats: N/A

Although not as well-known as some of his teammates, Faye is an intriguing piece for INSEP. He recently exploded for 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three, to lead INSEP to their first victory of the season. A dynamic scorer with deep shooting range and a high basketball IQ, Faye is poised to take on a more significant role as one of the older players on the squad. Despite not being on the national team this year, he has the potential to make a significant leap this season.

The Up-and-Comers

Achille Junior Elouma (6’6 | Wing | 2008)

• FIBA U16 Stats: 6.0 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.3 APG, 2.0 SPG, 46% FG

Elouma showed plenty of flashes during his time with France’s U16 team, where he was one of the key contributors to their gold medal run. He is a versatile defender with moments of self-creation on offense and is particularly effective in transition as an athletic finisher who can both start and finish fast breaks. He also displayed some shooting potential. While not yet a primary player, Elouma has the tools to turn heads as he continues to develop.

Nanteo Gabriel Des Bordes (6’4 | Guard | 2008)

• FIBA U16 Stats: 4.6 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 1.4 APG

Des Bordes had a rough debut with the French national team, but there were moments where his shot-making ability flashed. Each time I watch him, he makes one or two plays that suggest he could grow into a valuable piece for this squad over time. He has already shown glimpses of his potential in his complementary role for INSEP in NM1.

The Next (Next) Generation

INSEP recently announced 11 new additions to their program, bringing in some intriguing local youth prospects. These players will likely debut next season with the departure of the 2007-born players to bigger ventures. The new additions include some of the top prospects from the 2009 and 2010 generations, who are gearing up to compete in NM1 alongside their more experienced teammates.

Most of these players are relatively unknown but promising. The headliners appear to be Messi Yangala and Sven Ngom due to their size, but I’ve also heard good things about Brandon Muela and Antoine Pansa. Elyjah Nadeau Jolo, though a few years away, seems to have considerable long-term potential.

Tiefing Diawara, a 6'11" big man from Mali with a 7'3" wingspan, is currently enrolled at St. John's Northwestern DME in Wisconsin after spending the last few years with Orange1 Bassano in Italy. Diawara has excellent size and length, plus good mobility and coordination for a big-bodied throwback low post presence.

He works hard to establish low post position and shows flashes of scoring potential with quick spin moves and an effective drop step in his arsenal. While his touch around the rim is promising, it remains inconsistent at best, though he can finish with both hands around the rim. Diawara has a solid motor and is an effective as a roll man that score easy buckets by crashing the the offensive glass, as he loves battling in the paint to create second-chance opportunities.

In 2022, he showcased high upside with good hands and an aggressive mindset, looking to emphatically dunk everything around him. He also flashed the ability to attack closeouts and make instinctive plays on the move.

However, his recent performances haven’t matched those early flashes, and his development has stalled compared to initial expectations.

Diawara’s low post game remains raw and unpolished, with some really ugly possessions lead to turnovers or wild shots around the rim. He doesn't offer floor-spacing and tends to rely heavily on his strength and trying to outmuscle opponents.

While he could thrive in a play-finishing role alongside a good point guard, he currently lacks the skill set to be a reliable low post scorer or facilitator. Despite his early promise, Diawara will need to refine his offensive game and improve his decision-making to maximize his potential.

Matthys Mahop

Matthys Mahop is a 6'5" lead guard from France who showcased his potential in the championship game of the FIBA U16 EuroBasket, playing a tournament-high 25 minutes, scoring 10 points, dishing out 6 assists, and grabbing 7 rebounds in France's victory over Spain. Mahop brings an exciting blend of size and skill to the point guard spot, with a flair and flash to his game that makes him an appealing prospect to watch.

He’s capable of filling up the stat sheet with points, assists, and rebounds, thanks to his shifty, creative ball handling and glimpses of advanced court vision. Mahop's natural instincts and feel for the game make him a tough matchup for defenders, as he has the quickness and handle to get into the paint at will where he can finish around the rim with both hands. He also has a knack for drawing fouls, averaging 3.6 free throw attempts in less than 17 minutes of action. While skilled, Mahop can also generate points through hustle and energy plays.

Despite his talent, Mahop’s production hasn't fully matched his potential, though that’s not entirely his fault. He averaged 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in just 16.8 minutes per game at the U16 EuroBasket, and with more minutes, he could easily be a triple-double threat. While he has strong passing instincts and court vision, he needs to refine the touch and zip on his passes to improve his playmaking.

Mahop is also a reluctant shooter, often opting to drive into crowded lanes rather than taking open jumpers, which contributed to his 34% shooting from the floor and 20% from three at the tournament. Though he could be more assertive, France won the championship, making it hard to nitpick his overall performance. Mahop’s blend of size, skill, and potential makes him an intriguing guard prospect with room to grow. -RB

This lanky, playmaking guard stands out due to his impressive wingspan, which appears disproportionately large for his height. This physical trait allows him to disrupt passing lanes and make plays others might not be able to. His jump shot, though slow in execution, has a solid form, and he shows promise as a perimeter shooter. However, he often hesitates, frequently passing up open looks from the outside. Despite this, he can create his own shot off the dribble, utilizing his elevation and body control to find his spots on the floor.

His ability to vary his dribble speeds keeps defenders off balance, allowing him to navigate through pressure. His court vision sets him apart, making him a dynamic passer, especially in traffic. He has a remarkable instinct for finding teammates in scoring positions, such as the dunker spot, and consistently delivers passes once the defense commits. His passing skill is both an offensive weapon and a means to manipulate defenses, making him a true playmaker.

When attacking the basket, his footwork in traffic is impressive. He uses euro steps and controlled steps to throw off rim protectors, maintaining his balance and adjusting mid-air to finish. Though a good athlete, he isn’t exceptionally explosive at the rim, but his craftiness allows him to compensate. His quickness out of the triple-threat position is notable, and he often uses a Jimmy Butler-like “rocker step” on the wing to create space. While his role was diminished due to the teams talent, there might be more to his game as an isolation scorer in the mid post.

Lopez brings a unique background, being the son of former Mexican player Jesus “Chino” Lopez. He’s already built an impressive resume, including representing Mexico’s senior national team during the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where he averaged 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. This experience against high-level competition has only accelerated his development.

On the youth stage, Lopez shined at the 2024 Adidas Next Generation Tournament in Paris, averaging 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game, leading the tournament in PIR and blocks while earning All-Tournament Team honors.

His combination of size, athleticism, and skill is what makes him such a coveted NBA prospect. Now, Murrinen is set to take the next step in his development, as it was announced in June that he will join Arizona Compass Prep for the upcoming season. Listed at 6’10” and weighing in at 200 pounds, Murrinen is one of the most versatile players in the 2026 class, solidifying his reputation as a legitimate NBA prospect.

Basketball runs in Murrinen's blood—both of his parents were professional players. His father, Kimmo Muurinen, played for Finland’s national team, while his mother, Jenni Laaksonen, starred at North Carolina and represented Finland's women's national team.

Carrying on that family legacy, Murrinen made his senior debut for Finland at just 17 during an Olympic qualifying warm-up game against New Zealand, where he recorded two points, an assist, and three blocks. He followed that up with appearances against Latvia and earned a spot on the roster for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Murrinen’s physical profile and skill set makes him one of the top prospects in the world. He’s an athletic jumbo wing who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. His potential as a dribble, pass, and shoot wing, combined with his ability to guard multiple positions, points to a future where he could be a first-round pick in the NBA Draft if he continues his development.

3. Hugo Facorat

Hugo Facorat is quickly gaining recognition as one of the premier long-term prospects from the 2007 generation, and there’s a legitimate argument that he might be the best of the group. The 6’10” French forward is set to join the City Reapers in the OTE league this season, a program that’s rapidly becoming a top destination for elite prospects worldwide. Facorat's combination of size, skill, and upside makes him a tantalizing NBA prospect.

Last season, Facorat developed his game with the U18 and U21 squads of Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez in France, showing flashes of his potential at every level.

His breakout moment came during the Adidas Next Generation Tournament in Paris, where he averaged 13.8 points per game as his team’s second-leading scorer, while also leading them in blocks at 1.5 per contest. Facorat's performance solidified his status as one of the top high ceiling prospects in Europe.

4. Filipe Minzer

Argentinian guard Filipe Minzer is making waves after a standout summer on the international stage, where he showcased his unique blend of confidence, flair, and high-level playmaking. The 16-year-old guard has emerged as one of Argentina’s top young prospects, impressing with his performances at the U17 World Cup and U18 AmeriCup. Minzer currently plays for Zaragoza in the Spanish U19 League, and he’s already building a solid reputation overseas.

Last season, Minzer averaged 9.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting an efficient 47.5% from the field in the Spanish U19 competition. However, it was his performances this summer that truly put him on the global map. In the U17 World Cup, Minzer averaged 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.0 steals, while in the U18 AmeriCup, he posted 15.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. Across both tournaments, he shot a combined 50.4% from the field and 35.9% from beyond the arc.

Minzer’s blend of ball-handling, playmaking, and two-way impact reflects the quintessential Argentinian guard style—he plays with a level of poise and creativity that sets him apart from his peers. His international success paved the way for his professional debut on September 24, 2023, when he suited up for Casademont Zaragoza in Spain’s ACB, arguably the toughest domestic league outside the NBA.

5. Boyuan Zhang

Boyuan Zhang emerged as one of the biggest standouts from the FIBA U-17 World Cup and has a strong case as the best shooting prospect from the 2007 generation. The 6’8” Chinese wing not only has ideal positional size but also surprises with his sneaky athleticism and efficient finishing in the paint.

However, Zhang’s primary appeal is his elite shooting ability—he’s a certified deadeye from beyond the arc.

Over the past year, Zhang has been lighting it up across three major FIBA tournaments—the U16 Asia Championships, U17 World Cup, and U18 AsiaCup. Across 19 games, he’s averaged 18.2 points per game while shooting an impressive 48% from the field and 43% from three-point range on 6.6 attempts per game. His ability to knock down big shots and difficult looks was a key factor in China’s strong performances, helping them secure victories over more highly regarded teams.

Currently playing for Shanxi Fenjiu in China, Zhang is already on the radar as a top international prospect. If he chose to cross over to the U.S. and play at a high school or prep level, he would immediately rank among the top prospects in his class.

1. Hugo Yimga Moukouri

France has been a consistent pipeline for NBA-level talent, and Hugo Yimga Moukouri is another name to watch as the country continues to produce high-caliber prospects. Fresh off an impressive spring and summer, Yimga held his own against older competition, proving himself as one of the youngest standout players in multiple international tournaments.

Listed at 6’8” with a mature frame and elite athleticism, Yimga Moukouri showcased his potential at the U17 World Cup, where he averaged 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 51% from the field. He also made his mark in the U18 Adidas Next Generation Tournament, where he averaged 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.25 steals while shooting an efficient 54% from the floor over eight games during the 2023-24 season.

At just 16 years old, Yimga is still developing his skill set—particularly as a perimeter shooter, where he remains reluctant—but his physical tools and relentless motor make him an effective paint presence at this stage of his career. As his shooting and overall offensive game continue to evolve, HYM has the potential to remain the top dog in the 2008 generation for years to come, with a ceiling that could see him emerge as a premier prospect in the 2027 NBA Draft.

2. Paul Osaruyi

Paul Osaruyi made a name for himself last season at Glendale (AZ) Canyon International Academy and with his performances on the EYBL circuit, where his athleticism and raw potential were hard to miss.

This summer, Osaruyi continued to flash his upside, playing for the Canadian U17 national team at the FIBA World Cup. Despite really struggling with efficiency, he averaged 6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, he showed enough glimpses of what he could become in the long term to earn this ranking.

Standing out with his bouncy athleticism, Osaruyi is one of the more intriguing prospects from the 2008 generation. His ability to impact the game as a rim protector, rebounder, and play finisher provides him with a solid floor, but it’s his upside on the offensive end that keeps me intrigued. While still developing consistency, Osaruyi’s athleticism and high-energy style make him an active presence on both ends of the floor. If he continues to refine his offensive skill set, he has the potential to be special.

3. Abraham Juom Maker Bol

Abraham Juom Maker Bol turned heads at the No Borders Eurocup Tournament, where the South Sudanese prospect put up eye-popping numbers, averaging 18.8 points, 21.8 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game representing Baskonia. At 6’11” with incredibly long arms—longer than the lines at Disney World—Maker Bol is an intriguing long-term prospect due to his combination of size, length, and agility.

AJMB impacts the game as a dominant rim protector, relentless rebounder, and efficient play finisher. He possesses a good foundation of post moves, with impressive footwork and fundamentals, allowing him to score with soft touch finishes around the rim. What makes him even more intriguing is his versatility—he’s shown flashes of ball-handling, playmaking, and even stretching the floor with long-range shooting potential.

While still in the early stages of his development, Maker Bol’s upside is clear. If his growth continues along this trajectory, he has the tools to be a first-round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft, making him one of the most promising big men in his class.

4. Cameron Houindo

Cameron Houindo was named MVP of the 2024 FIBA U16 EuroBasket after leading France to the tournament title with a stellar all-around performance. Houindo averaged 13.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, pacing his team in points, rebounds, and blocks. He delivered three double-doubles across seven games, showcasing his ability as an old-school low post bruiser who thrives as a paint scorer and relentless rebounder.

What really stood out was Houindo’s defense. He ranked second in blocks and fourth in steals per game at the tournament, making him one of the most impactful defenders I evaluated this summer. His broad frame, physicality, and defensive instincts made him a consistent force on both ends of the floor.

Houindo projects as one of the better two-way prospects from the U16 EuroBasket, with significant upside at the college level. If he can extend his shooting range and improve his playmaking when double-teamed, he could be a key contributor at a high-major program.

5. Mathias Vazquez

Mathias Vazquez made a strong impression this summer, leading Brazil in scoring at the U18 AmeriCup despite being one of the youngest players in the tournament. The versatile wing averaged 12 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game, showcasing his ability to contribute across the board on both ends of the floor.

Currently playing for Real Betis' second team in Spain, Vazquez continues to build his reputation as a stat-stuffing connector with high basketball IQ. In Spain’s EBA league last season, he posted 9.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He also made three appearances in Spain’s U19 league, averaging 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, demonstrating his ability to elevate his game against older competition.

Depending on the source, Vazquez is listed between 6’5” and 6’8”, but regardless of his exact measurements, he finds a way to make an impact on the floor. His defensive versatility, combined with his knack for filling the stat sheet and making winning plays, makes him one of the top prospects in the 2008 generation. Vazquez projects as a high-IQ, multi-positional defender who can guard all over the floor while contributing as a connector on offense.

Abraham Juom Maker Bol

Quick off his feet, he’s an effective rim protector and offensive rebounder, using his timing, massive wingspan, and length to control the paint on both ends of the floor.

Offensively, he’s a reliable interior presence, finishing plays with soft touch around the rim and keeping the ball high, avoiding the need to load up for power finishes.

When he establishes low post position, he’s tough to stop, using his size, length, and soft touch to score over smaller opponents. He’s effective scoring off cuts to the rim, face-up drives, offensive rebound putbacks, and traditional post-ups. Bol also flashes solid playmaking and court vision, making drive-and-kick passes and finding cutters from the high post, adding versatility to his offensive game.

Bol shows glimpses of competent ball handling in the half court and has the tools to be an elite transition finisher and a rebound-and-run threat. His upside as a shooter is intriguing, as he has a high-arching shot with good touch, although his release is a bit low. Despite his skinny frame, Bol competes with a strong motor, consistently throwing his body around and playing through contact.

However, there are concerns about Bol’s development. He is still raw and learning the game, and his thin frame, narrow hips, and skinny legs may limit his ability to add weight, which could affect his effectiveness at higher levels. If he struggles to bulk up, his ability to play as a traditional 4 or 5 could be hindered, raising questions about whether he’ll have the skill set to play on the perimeter. While he’s a good athlete, he’s not particularly explosive, though his length often compensates for it. Despite these concerns, Bol’s physical tools, motor, and flashes of skill give him high upside as a prospect.

Australia’s Emmett Adair, the tournament MVP, set the tone with his high energy and defensive presence, while teammate Jacob Furphy showcased his elite shooting ability and crafty scoring.
