Hamad Mousa (FIBA)

Hamad Mousa

Nationality: Qatar
Birthdate: March 28, 2006

Level: High Major - NBA

Hamad Mousa was, in my opinion, the standout player at the Basketball Without Borders All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis in February 2024. At 6'8", Mousa has ideal size for a wing, fitting the modern mold of big, versatile playmakers. He plays with advanced pace and patience, showing control and poise, and brings visible joy and passion to the game.

Mousa is fundamentally sound, consistently making quick, high-IQ decisions with the ball, which is unsurprising given his basketball pedigree. His father, Yassin Mousa, was the first player from the Arab world invited to the Nike Hoop Summit in 2000, played for the Qatar National Team, and helped lead Qatar’s 3x3 squad to the 2014 FIBA World Championship title.

Hamad is a crafty scorer, utilizing reverse pivots and advanced footwork to create separation from defenders. He’s a reliable finisher in the paint, using both hands effectively around the rim. His smooth, effortless shooting stroke makes him a dual-threat, able to play both on and off the ball, perfectly fitting the profile of today’s dribble, shoot, and pass wings who can initiate offense or play a complementary role.

Mousa is also a gifted passer, excelling at manipulating defenses with his eyes and delivering precise, late passes, including live-dribble skip passes. He brings flair to his playmaking with regular no-look passes that highlight his creativity. On the court, he stands out as a great teammate, displaying leadership qualities and always being vocal and supportive.

However, Mousa is an average athlete in terms of vertical explosiveness, and he will need to add strength and bulk to handle more physical competition effectively. Despite these areas for growth, his combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ makes him a compelling prospect for the next level.
