Sidi Gueye, a Senegalese big man, stands out as a really promising long-term prospect with his long arms, quick feet, excellent motor and defensive upside. Gueye is agile and coordinated, he moves his feet exceptionally well in space, showing great promise as a switchy defender and an intimidating rim protector who changes everything around the rim. Gueye more than holds his own when defending guards in space, often denying point guards the ball and showing no fear of getting beat off the dribble. He plays with an active motor, makes multiple efforts and never gives up on plays.
Offensively, Gueye is fundamentally sound and excels in doing the little things right. He passes well out of the post, showing promise as a ball mover, and demonstrates good footwork and balance. Gueye executes hard rolls to the rim and keeps the ball high in the paint. As a lefty, he has a soft touch around the rim and shows upside in attacking closeouts on straight-line drives.
However, Gueye has areas that need attention. He is really thin, with broad shoulders and skinny legs, but is stronger than he appears. To maximize his talent, he will need to add weight and strength. Additionally, his high-energy play style often leads to fatigue. Despite these concerns, Gueye's defensive prowess, agility, and potential make him an exciting prospect for college coaches looking for a versatile and impactful big man.
